Spirit and Fins |
|
Hi.
after a couple of months of training on flat water and sometimes catching waves I decided to try to take out the two side fins. It seems like I took out one foot in length on my Spirit, it turns like a modern longboard even if I feel it a bit more unstable. I really prefer the Spirit single fin in small waves. I think maybe to try with a central fin a bit longer just to have both, maneuverability a nd stability. any suggestion?
thanks

Yeah, i do the same.
The basic feature tri fin is great for efficient surfing on medium size waves but of course on a that long board using it as a single fin on small waves is 200% efficient !!!
I use the 215 GONG when i want to keep a 360° and tricky ability. If i want to nose ride or add a lot of balance and turn ability, i use the 270.
Anyway, every body must have different fins to fit their boards differently regarding the conditions and their needs. Fins are 50% of the board efficiency, never forget it.

yesterday I put a oldskool 4 batten camberless sail on the 10'11 to try it's windsurfing abilities on a lake.
the mastbase insert works very good and exactly in the right position on the board(how did you manage to do that?)
It took me back too my very first glide feeling I had on the old windsurfer around 25 years ago... only way lighter and more responsive. It was like 15 years ago that I had a sailboard rig in my hands but it felt natural from the first start.
Could not test it fully because there was not enough wind, but will take it out again in the very first possible chance I have.
I could even sail it upwind..... unbelievable that this works without a daggerboard. I remember pulling out the daggerboard on the old windsurfer would make it only go downwind. Super.
Ours. What is the difference between the finish of the drops and gong boards? It looks like the drops dents(no chipping) easier than the gong finish. Are the gong boards stiffer than the drops?

Hello,
that's very nice. We have exactely the same feeling!!!
Pure glide...
About the technology, it is the same, only very small differences. The finish is a bit different but there are no reason to be a difference between the GONG and the Drops. It is absolutely the same quality.
But the shape can make the difference. If the rail is thin, the blade hurt it on a smaller surface. That could be a reason.
Thanks a lot.
