Mob in Fuerteventura?

Message par maupan » jeu. juin 22, 2017 12:32 pm

Hi, everyone!

i own a Cloud Bamby 8.1 120l with 2 year practice after one year of inflatable.
i'm 178cm and 69kg. Now i'm going to change my board (to leave it to my girlfriend! ) and i'm in love with Mob 7.6 105l.

I live in Fuerteventura (in front of Majanicho that is my home spot). I want a stable board to use it even in windy days.

I only have a little doubt. It's the mob the right board for fuerteventura or it would be better to look at more traditional shapes like the curve?

In the slope, the mid rocker of mob could be a problem comparing with my Cloud or the Curve?

I repeat, i'm looking for stability and a shorter board. Mob is the ansver i think. Could the problem be the powerful waves of Fuerte?

Hello,

Mob are fantastic boards from 0 to 100km/h. But they are not made to be nice at 300km/h.
You get the difference ;-)

So if your goal is to have the best acceleration and the shortest curves: Mob is the perfect board.

If your goal is to go superfast and make long curves, you need a Curve, not a Mob ;-)

Thanks,
GONG owner and shaper

You have perfectly explained the spirit of Mob. I'm in there!

Any issue to report with powerful waves?
It's just a matter of style of surfing?

Boards like the Mob are actually quite stable at speed, because of the parallel rails.

However, it is always a question of compromise: a stabler board will be harder to roll on the side, be it by chop... or action of the rider. So in powerful waves, you will need more effort to put the Mob on the rail (you will need to move your rear foot more on the rail), and the board will keep its speed in turns, making it hardder to do small turns in the pocket to slow down.

A Fatal could be also a compromise. Less stable than a Mob (narrrower tail), stabler than a Curve, and designed for 200 km/h. But a slower paddling speed.
2019: 7'3" Fatal 105L, Alley 7'8" 105L & 8'1" 120L, Zero 9'0" 115L
2022: Mob 7'6" cool 120L, Alleys custom 7'10" 112L & 8'1" 114L
2023: Karmen custom 7'11" 118L

Wooow! I never thought of the Fatal because I consider it too difficult for my level. This change the game!

i know that choosing a board depends by the Super but considering what i wrote in my first post (spot, weight and years of paddling) what kind of board do you recommend and in which size?

If you did not surf with prone shortboards before, The Mob 7'6" will be the safest choice, I guess. The Mob helps you to ride: progressive accelerations, more tolerant to errors.

The Fatal will need more commitment: you have to drive it aggressively to make it work. It can be hard when you are tired or on days you are not in a top form.
