Mob 7'2 or One 6'6

Message par MagW » mar. avr. 05, 2016 12:38 pm

I am experienced super but only 63kg and surfing soft and choppy waves, in windy conditions.
I want a board to complement the longboards with shortboard feeling for soft waves. Today I ride an Asylation 8' x 76,5 cm with 100litres and flat rocker, which I like but I want to try the new shapes.

I think the Mob 7'2 would be a bit big and wide 78 cm for my weight. Maybe I am completely wrong? ?
Would you say the One 6'6 would be better suited for me and would be the same board as a "smaller" 6'-7' Mob? Or is the One 2016 a whole other shape and board type than the Mob 2016?

Coolas has told me that the One is harder in steep waves, from his experienced with some prototypes. The Asylation does also catch the front nose rails and front bottom in the water on steep waves, it makes a stop like putting down the brake pedal. I sometimes fall forward when it brakes. In flatter waves or turns it is no problem. Will the One behave the same?

Mob 7'2 or the One 6'6 or keep the Asylation?

Waves of 0,3-1,5 m mostly and sometimes 2 m.

The One can handle steep waves, the hard part is if you try to turn tight in the pocket, there is so much power under the rear foot (and such speed) that it becomes quite hard. But for more horizontal surfing they work quite well.

I would go with the one for an agressive style, and the Mob for a more relaxed style. And waves more than chest high and chop will be easier on the Mob

I find it unfortunate that a long time no one has written in this chat. The topic is very interesting. Is there something new?

What about your decision MagW

Greetings
Sascha

Also, the Mob will paddle faster, so will be easier on shifty peaks, and to take off early, before the wave is too steep.

I would advise the Mob if you are not used to short SUPs, it will be easier to learn how to use it.

The One will be killer if you have often waves knee to chest high, and know or want to learn to push on the legs to accelerate (the pumping)

I haven't made up my mind yet. I have sold some boards lately, including the Acylation 8', so now there is some room in the bus and garage. The One 6'8 with 95 liters is an interesting choice. But a 7'2 Mob, 72cm wide, and 95 liters might be an even better choice. Any plans for 2017 l'Ours???? :? :o :( :) :D

The Mob could be easier in more wind and constantly moving peaks which needs faster paddling. But I still haven't made up my mind...

I think the width won't be a problem because of the shape of both boards.

The width for my 63 kg is a problem, or at least a challenge. I need narrow boards with low volume to be able to control the turns in chop, in wind and to be able to maneuver the board from one rail to the other rail.

I know the problem having same weight as you. On my cloud 8'1 I have to move the rear food much more for rail to rail surfing. What I meant was that the tail shape of both one (57cm) and mob (55cm) are both quite wide so the rail to rail performance won't be comparable to something like the fatal. But both looking like ultimate fun machines.

Good Waves

Well Magnus, when we read in http://www.gongsup.com/forum/viewtopic. ... 07#p114307 :
Ours a écrit :Ces quelques mois m'ont incité à orienter cette production "locale" vers du haut de gamme quasi custom.
I guess your specific needs could very well be what this "quasi custom" production would be ideal for...

Personally, I find ShortSUPs quite hard in chop in that you need more experience for the takeoff to find the timing to be in sync with the wave bump without being out of balance when you need to "pump" on the bump for the takeoff. But once on the wave, a shorter length is easier to handle in chop...

I agree with both of you. The wide tail is no a Fatal. And a Fatal in my chop would be very hard to control before takeoff. Plus my waves are slow.

Short boards and wind is not the ideal combo!

Ahh, I haven't noticed the quasi customs!

My bigger board is the Curve 7'11 and i am 85kg
190cm tall and 85 Kg

Keesdekrom, compared to the 2014 One, the new Ones are stabler, easier on take off (the wide nose makes wonders), have a more controlled ride (you can use a longer rail length to manager steep sections), but a bit less wild/explosive feeling.

They have the same power in the tail however, that can be hard to hadle in hollow waves if you want to turn tight.

The Mob will have more range than the One, being able to handle more size, all the more so since the Mob 7'2" has less volume than the One 6'8", and with a easier take off in chop. The Mob will be quite fun also in micro waves, with perhaps accelerations than a One. The Mob could be the do-it-all board for 90% of the sessions in the north sea?
