Hello folks,
I'm currently pre-selecting my first iSUP and the CM 10'6 with 4'' thickness is my first choice & the current discount is very enticing
I'm 1,90 m tall with 85 kg and my utilization should be something like
- 50% cruising at the ocean
- 25% small waves fun
- 25% rivers and lakes
I am just doubting, if 4'' is rigid enough for my weight class? Categorization of the board says yes ... but in other surf communities, 6'' seem to be the choice for my weight. What is your experience / recommendation ? Is 10'6 / 4'' ok for a rookie, or should I better chosse the 10' version (more stable) or a 6'' thick version (with less sagging and vibrations when rowing)
Thanks in advance
Flo

Re: Rigidness of 10'6 CM with only 4'' thickness
I am 85 kg, amd I am using it, even sometimes with my daughter 25 kg, and once for fun 2 kids. So no worry. It is already very stable. You can have the 11'6 with 6, but you will loose agility and easiness.... If you want to surf more take the 10', if you want more cruising take the 10'6! Cheers

Thank you @herve85 for your fast reply The CM10'6 is named the "swiss knife" which seems to fit for my needs.
Is a board with "only" 31' width stable enough for beginners at the ocean (for the typical bumpy conditions when cruising, not for waves) ?

Re: Rigidness of 10'6 CM with only 4'' thickness
Hello,
it is perfect, no worries. Of course it is not as stiff as an epoxy board, but way enough to enjoy the spot. Our boards are well known to be stiff, no problem.
If we compare stiffness of inflatable boards, you have the choice between single skin, 1,5 skin, and double skin.
- single skins are very cheap and light. I don't advise them.
- single with a center double skin are more stiff and still light, but not so strong. It is the choice of many brands to decrease the retail price and save margins.
- double skins are the strongest and stiffest boards. Also the most expensive and heavy. But it is the quality choice. All GONG boards are made with double skin.
Let us know your idea.
Thanks,
