Karmen 105 for more stability

Message par lecum » dim. avr. 07, 2019 1:36 pm

Hello
I'm about to order a Karmen 105 FSP. I have a quatro carve 8`0" x 28,5" 100 l and I want some more stability with the Karmen 105. The Karmen is 0,25" plus large overall and both the width 30 cm from nose and tail is 2 cm wider than Quatro carve. I don't know if this will be enough to feel more stability.

I would like to hear opinions of people who owns the karmen 105, regarding the stability and the ease of catching soft waves (beach breaks) for intermediate level. The carve is focused on fast waves and I catch more slow waves than fast ones.

Thanks

I don't know which carve you have, but I remember somebody messaging me on the seabreeze forum asking my advice about buying one. When looking at it I was shocked by the narrowness of the nose for the rider level and strongly advised against it for fear of the lack of stability on take offs. He bought it nonetheless, but quickly realised his mistake. It was a "world cup" shape, made for high level riders that have the technique to get the advantages of a narrow nose, and getting it oversized is not a solution.

The Karmen will be much stabler than your Carve, that's for sure. And the wider nose and tail means the rails are more parallel, giving more glide and stability at speed. You can lean on the nose on takeoffs for maximum efficiency, whereas the angled rails of a narrow nose will trip you up. But the karmen nose is not wide to the point of pushing water and slowing the board.

Since I got my Karmens, I do not use my 9'3" longboard SUP anymore, I feel that the Karmen is nearly as efficient to catch small weak waves than a long SUP, if you paddle with your feet staggered (If you paddle with your feet parallel on takeoff, you will need the longest board possible for takeoffs)

In another post, you seemed to imply you were in the Basque county. You are welcome to try my Karmen 105l if you want to test paddling it, I live in Seignosse and I am free every morning.

Thank you so much. I have to go to Hossegor next week one day from 12 to 17. I will tell you in advance. Do you have an email address to arrange time and place to test the karmen?

If "feet staggered on catching waves" means surfing feet position, that's how I usually paddle to catch waves

Kind regards

Yes, [email protected].

And yes, "feet staggered on catching waves" means feet not parallel, either a true surfing stance or a fencing stance (torso facing forwards)
