Surf foil : wake foil water starts

Message par maxmasotti » dim. mai 27, 2018 9:58 pm

Hello
After five years with kitefoil and one year with sup foil I would like to do surf foil behind the boat.
You have some advice for the water start ? it would be easy with the straps but without ?
What is the position for the departure with the cable ?
thank' you max

Hello,

it is easier with straps, but not as "pure" as without them.

Bend the cable at the minimum speed of the motor. Step up on the board. Then accelerate.

Thanks,

Hello,

Merci.

Hello,

Avoid starting directly behind the propeller so that the Foil doesn’t get hit and agitated by the turbulence. It can be very destabilising.

With Straps it’s like classic wake riding, just don’t put yourself into too much opposition with the boat and start out with a low speed giving you the time to get up.

Without Straps, it’s a bit harder, but with the right method easy enough.
1/ Get the Board in a 90° angle with the axis of the boats pull.
2/ Get the Board on its side, with the Foil mast parallel with the water.
3/ Maintain this position of the Board with your back arm by holding the rail between your two feet.
4/ Get your feet into the sweet spots.
5/ You Board should be perpendicular to the traction of the boat, mast parallel with the water, back hand on the rail and rope handle in your leading hand in between you legs.
6/ The boat pilot will be pull you out of the water slowly, and let you place yourself outside of the wake, and then fix the speed at 11knots, which is the best.

the pilot needs to manage the slight tension during this positioning.

Warnings :

NEVER hold rope in your hand (you risk serious injury and cutting).
NEVER pull yourself forward by grabbing the rope when you’re being pulled. Trying to get into the wave for example. If you fall and you have a limb caught up in the rope or knot that’s trailing behind you : you will lose that limb !!! Clean cut, no joke.
To limit these risks, use a Wakesurf handle and rope : which has a large diameter rope and very small handle, and respects safety codes.
Never fall on the Foil. The worst accident will be that you fall on the tailed of the Foil which has the highest cutting risks. Do not hesitate to fall forward : fall towards the front or to the side.
ATTENTION, a Boats wave brings water up with more force in comparison to a wave. Once you launch into flight the Foil will follow and you risk having it flip on you. It will be a guaranteed fall with your torso falling on the wings tips !! Protect your face with your arms, wear a life vest and a thick wetsuit, and above all, avoid this situation!
NOTE : The Allvator Foils have rounded, dulled, points to limit the danger. But your skin is softer when wet and an accident can always take a turn for the worse. Protect yourself and be prudent.

Recommended gear :
Our Allvator Foil in size M for those under 60kg and L for the bigger rider. A larger Foil functions as well because the wave from the wake, although small, is steeper and can trap a larger wing.
A smaller Board is fine.
A Certified Lifevest.
A wetsuit.
An Official Wakesurf rope and handle.

Fishman a écrit :I want make learning to foil behind a boat as easy as possible for my family and friends.

We have all the Aviator wings and tails sizes.

I was thinking to use the XXL wing with the small 45cm or the 40cm tail, might be easier than the big 45cm tail.

I was thinking this could be good especially for lightweight people 110 -130lbs (50-60kg)

Good idea or Bad idea?
Check the previous post please.

Got it. Thanks

I was thinking a larger wing at a slower speed made possible with a smaller tail could be easier than than a smaller wing...

Nope, not a good idea.

The best goal is to find the perfect trim line. Many guys are pumping all the way instead of flying 10cm up to follow the energy.
