All foils : understand the stab

Message par Ours » mar. mai 30, 2017 4:01 pm

Hello,

Hello,

Kiters are familiar with their Foils (most of them anyway;)), but for new Foilers in Surf and SUP I want to expound on some important elements.

All about the Stab Angle :

As its name indicates that Stab is there to stabilize your flight time. Without it your flight would be in oscillation and out of control.
The bigger the Stab the more mellow the flight. The smaller it is the more reactive.

Beyond its shape and therefore its lift and its intrinsic behavior ; You are able to judge the behavior of you Foil and change it based on the feeling you are looking for. By leaving your Stab flat your Foil will be calm, maybe even to calm.

Installing your Stab peaked upwards with a Wedge in back your Foil will rear more. In a straight line it will have more lift and less speed. But the entire interest in it is once in a turn and leaning this tendency to rear enhances the acceleration within the turn.

Well understood that its all about the dosage, extremes are always bad and the adjustment modification ranges quite small.
