Bought some of those small FCS GL sidebites so will try them with the 8inch fin.....might be a bit looser.

I guess so.

On the single fin issue: You may want to try "finger" fins (deep fins with a short cord). As they do not grip a lot at low speed, they are suprisingly loose when paddling, allowing for quick U turns, yet provide enough grip once on the wave.

Also, your Nah Skwell 9'6" is very slow with the side fins, try to remove them to get more speed.

2022: Mob 7'6" cool 120L, Alleys custom 7'10" 112L & 8'1" 114L
2023: Karmen custom 7'11" 118L

I'm actually going to sell the Nah Skwell Coolas......the board is pretty good and turns fine too but I prefer a bigger curve into the tail so that it rides similar to a longboard. Reckon I'd like a SUP around the same or a bit longer but wide...just fun really. Any of the Gong line up you suggest? I'm considering something more like a Starboard Hero....what's the closest to that in the Gong range?

Hi Saturnx,
Are you based in UK ?,
Very nearly convinced myself that I want a 9'9 Scares, very longboard style, you might find it interesting ?
seems like it's got "full on " longboard bottom shape, deep spoon front with rounded "belly" , that needs a lot of running around to make it work, definitely new/old school.
If I get one, it should be here in a few weeks, you are very welcome to try it.

it's an option, slightly radical but could be fun !!
Caribou Soul 9'6 , , , 4 x4 Fract 8'1, Gong Bamby Faking 6'11, Salt Paddle Palika, Carbon Curl,

Thanks for the offer but I'm way up in Scotland. :D

Saturnx, I am not a longboard expert, but there are plenty of longboard shapes in the Gong line that could pleaee you

- The NFA line of course, "everything goes" shape, with enough rocker to make all conditions fun
- The "Caribou gang of 4": Soul, Scares, Never Stick, Lord
- The Asyl
- and of course the SUP longbiards in the pro line.

I had a Soul 2011, and tried the Soul 2012. This is a classic longboard, very smooth glide, limited top speed but the 50/50 rails gives it a real "classic longboard" feel, even more so for the 2012. I only sold it because my new van was too short.
I tried the 2011 Lord, and wow... you feel like you are Laird, you feel... majestic

If you do not really know what to choose, I would tend to recommend you a Bamby NFA... all the people I saw on them seemed to enjoy them, whatever their level. The NFA will please everybody. 10' or 11' ?
Note that the carbon in the caribou or pro lines is worth it as it shines for the long and thin boards to give them more nervosity.
The Caribou line are boards with a lot of character, different for each shape. The Scares seems the ultimate classic noserider shape. But you cannot go wrong with the Caribou if you expect to discover a board with a character inherited for surfing history and enjoy learning to know a non-standard shape.

But again, I am not a longboard spacialist, the advice of other will be more helpful than mine.

Just to update folks - come to conclusion that the 12ft NFA works sooooooo much better with a single fin. Any sidebites slow this board down very noticeably.

+ 1 but if don't put the side fins people think that the board is just a fat boat...

Of course the best on the 12' is a single fin.

Thanks.

Took me a bit of trial and error - which is always good to do - but a 10 inch dolphin single just suits it great and it feels far far better.
