Repair gong Faking

Message par giacomo » dim. août 16, 2015 6:18 pm

Today i found a little crack in the bottom of my Faking :(
with a knife i remove the "red" and put the board under The sun. After 1 hour some bubbles come out....!!!
Shit there's water inside!!!;(
so i remove more "red" from the "soft" place and left The board under the sunset sun.
but now???
I saw the white of the board, i think is the eps (??).
What should i do? I have some solarez (yellow One) and the dura rezn (buyied from the gong shop), can i use these to repair The board? Directly to the EPS? Is dangerous? ;(
thanks

Hello,

you must use only Epoxy.

Then, this is a serious crack. You have to feed the hole with some foam and redo the complete lamination.

Solarez is nice (only epoxy) but not for that big dings.

Thanks,

For this, an easy trick is to take some polystyrene foam (EPS) from discarded packing and separate it into the small balls, and fill the hole in the foam (white is the EPS) with it.

Using only Solarez risk to have cracks appear between the repair & the board. You must add fiberglass layers as a "scarf" by sanding the board glass (in blue) with long slopes and add the repair (in white), and sand flat once hard.

:(

ok.
but I cannot just use the Dura Rezn? Maybe filled with some polyestere small ball (as Coolas trick)?

The hole isn't so big...

So I think to do this:

-open more the hole and let the board under the some for some hour/days
-fille with dura rezn and some polyestere balls.
-repaint with red spray
-sand

is this possible?

- you cannot use dura rezn or solarez inside the foam: if the ultraviolet rays of the sun cannot reach it, it will not harden (this is why you cannot use it with opaque microspheres)

- if you just fill the hole, the contact surface with the original glassfiber will be very, very small (on the edges of the hole). It will crack open very easily (such as the railsaver pushing on it)

Be careful, leaving a board in the sun shortens its life.
Better leave in a warm (less than 40C), well ventilated place. Maybe using paper towels to extract the water by capillarity.
