Repair Faking 6'11

Message par giacomo » jeu. avr. 09, 2015 9:31 am

Hi all!
I would like to ripair some little splits on my faking 6'11.
It's seem to be nothing serious but I'm tired to see my board in this condition.
Do you know how I can do?
I could just brush a little and use some solarex? and for the red colour?

thanks in advance.

yes:
- brush/sand just enough for the resin to stick
- apply just enough solarez / Doctor Phix / any UV-curing epoxy (or just epoxy + some fibers or microspheres)
- cover with clear PVC tape, then put in the sun 3 minutes if UV-curing resin.
- remove the PVC tape, normally sanding should be minimal, the tape will have kept the resin in the shape of the rail
- paint with any car paint, in spray can or touchup pens. Color is RAL3020 (plain red). use many thin layers rather thick ones.
- apply clear car varnish, glossy or not. If you have only glossy ones, just sanding them lightly afterwards does the trick, a dish rough sponge (scotch-brite) is perfect for this.

thank u coolas.
but... what is a PVC tape??? is the classic electric tape?

and I didn't understood the last 3 point:

after solarex I should use a color spray and then a transparent color?

Yes.

Clear PVC tape is a transparent tape that is thick and flexible (so you can "shape" in on the rails without folds), and epoxy doesnt stick to it. And UV goes through so that the resin cures well.
I guess any stretchable transparent plastic tape will be OK.

Note that UV-curing resins like solarez should not be in contact with the oxygen of the air during cure, hence the tape.

With solarez, sandpaper, and PVC tape I can repair anything! :-)

ok, maybe I understand this time :)
so, with solarez you make durable repair? wow

so:

brush
put solarex
put tape above the fresh solarex
wait some minutes under the direct sunlight
put off the tape
brush again
than the work is finish, if i wont I could use some color spray (many layers?) and the a fixative (?) spray to fix color

is this ok?

and as clear PVC paper a can use the classic clear office tape or I need to find a specific electrical clear pvc tape?

Yes. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MbV46dgbcF0

Solarez repairs are as durable as with a normal resin. The 2 mistakes to avoid:
- not sanding (brushing) before applying
- not protecting the resin from the air

Solarez can be used to make boards... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BTpq5tsMkMo

classic clear office tape is harder to remove, it breaks in pieces. It is easier with thicker tapes.

You can also use a plastic sheet and tape it. But clear tape is easier.

Ok, I'll try asap!

about the solarex durability I have just one experience of this year in Fuerteventura when a friend of mine put some solarex on my board (close to the fin) and after some days the solarex just seems broke.

ps: my Solarex is the yellow one, polyester resin... is ok?

If you see the foam, you must use the epoxy solarez (blue). Otherwise, yellow is Ok.

Did you friend sanded enough the area where he put the solarez?

sincerely I don't remeber... maybe not.

Ideally, you should just remove the (red) paint. If you dont, the repair will stick as much as the paint... less than resin on resin.

Yes, don't worry. As long as it is waterproof, you can go surfing. You can sand/brush it perfectly when you will have time, later...
