Hello,
I might get back into kiting after a 10 year break. Last time, year 1999-2003, I used Naish 4-line AR5 and the first gerenation Aero kite. I was on a 5'6" Naish twin tip with 7,5 11 and 14sqm doing some jumps and jibes. Nothing more technical. The safety systems during that evolutionary era were dangerous and I ended up hurting myself a couple of times and quit. The windsurfing was more fun at that time also. But now I am thinking about a comeback!
I will use the kite in light winds and small waves, when I am not on the SUP, i.e 10-20 knts. Windsurfing, and waveSUPing!, when over 20-22 knots.
Which quiver do you recommend for me, 64kg and 179cm?
One board and one kite to start.

Hello, I think 12m² and the alu 6" if you want radical surf, batmob 6"2 for cool surfing and light wind or the matata 5"2 for the best all round program

Re: quiver de debutant
Thx for reply,
I agree that the 12sqm and a 6 Batmob or Matata would probably be the best. Maybe a 10 could be enough, but 12 is better in light winds.

Re: quiver de debutant
Hello,
you will enjoy it, for sure.
So you have to go back to it step by step.
2 solutions in my opinion:
Firstly, saying that you can do everything with one kite is false. There is a big difference between a day with 10/13knts and a day around 18knts for a guy at 64kg.
So :
1/ you go for a 10m in order to enjoy a fast kite and you focus on 13-20 knots.
2/ you start on the light wind, with a slower kite that makes you more confident because you use it in 10-15knots.
By the end, you take 10 + 14 to cover the 8-22knots range.
It depends on the way you feel it.
With one kite only, you will take more risks because you will not have the choice to be safe. If you want to go kiting, you will. Even if the wind is 3 knots over the max that you can handle. This could be a disaster. With 2 kites, you cover a large range, including the SUP and windsurf conditions you mentioned. Have the choice makes it safer. And it is not huge money with GONG Kites.
About the board, a Pie Kite 5'8 gives you the best upwind performances. So you will have fun quickly.Kiting without upwind ability is just a pure pity.
Then you can look at a 5'6 Alu for the wavy days next year.
Let us know your feeling.
Thanks,
you will enjoy it, for sure.

Re: quiver de debutant
Good point with the upwind performance, that is a must. Pie is better for sure.
So, the question is a 14 or a 10 to begin with?

Re: quiver de debutant
Hello,
is it mostly a gusty wind where you live?
For your weight a 10m2 has a huge range if you have a surfboard under feet.

Depending on the wind direction. But the wind is not very steady.

However, I am thinking about if the Matata kite is an alternative to the Alu for my small and slow waves. Since we have no ground swell it is always windswell.

Re: quiver de debutant
Hello,
if we compare the Pie 5'8 and the Matata 5'2, the Pie will go a bit faster upwind and the Matata will surf better and be easier.
On choppy water, the nose of the Pie is close to the surface, can be tricky if you are beginner. The Matata is also flat but its nose has a belly and it is very much more comfortable on the chop.
Let me know your questions.
