the wave catcher
Hi guys. I had a look at the gong boards and they look great. I need some help in finding the one for me.
I'm 47, 85 KG, 15 years of surf, short and long boards. 5 years ago I had a baby. Since then I surf in summer only. Mainly in Asturias. I lack both techniques and fisical conditions. When paddling I feel the strength of a jellyfish. Dead meat. At the moment I'm surfing a 9'8. Quite thin in the nose, it is a bit tricky in the take off. Small sweet spot, a small mistake leads to miss the wave or nose dive.
I'm considering a hybrid a fish or even another long. I don't care anymore how it rides the wave, I just want something that paddles like a rocket and catches waves like a magnet.
Tnx for any advice!

Re: the wave catcher
Wow, that sounds interesting. I'll consider it. Any alternatives to a longboard?

Re: the wave catcher
Yes, either:Charliedontsurf a écrit :Any alternatives to a longboard?
- a fish like the Pie https://gongsupshop.com/epages/box1707. ... ON8SURFPIE
- a mini-Simmons like the Matata https://gongsupshop.com/epages/box1707. ... GON8SURFMA
I would advise the 6'11" or 7'11" Pie. Shorter boards are slower to paddle and need a more precise takeoff movement, that may be harder for you with the lack of practice.

Thanks a lot for the useful advice. Did you try the pie? How it compares to Batmob and Carter? Minisimmons are not my cake

Re: the wave catcher
Alas no. I do not surf anymore due to hip problems, but I surfed a lot of boards. Mostly batmob-like the last years, but I loved the twin fins I had. The twin fins are faster, but can be a bit more twitchy surfed backside than a batmob. The batmob is a very safe and predictable shape.Charliedontsurf a écrit :Thanks a lot for the useful advice. The carter wont work in the mediteranneans sea, unless you have spots with powerful long waves. And you should avoid it if you already have problems with the thin nose of your board.
